"To disappear if only for a day"

Tonight I am typing this blog at 2:30am on a very frigid night, the temperature on my phone reads -5.  Is that even a temperature?  This entire week has been a frigid week, so that means more time home wrapped in a blanket.  It was snowy, very blustery on Saturday which found me painting and then on Sunday despite I went to church for Mass, it was another day wrapped in a blanket painting.

So why am I up at 2:30am writing this blog?  Because I cannot sleep when the bedroom is ridiculously hot.  My downstairs is just to cold even though the heat is set at 70 degrees. Don't worry, I don't have to work today, I get the day off for President's Day.  (I know, that is unusual)  And I can't seem to get someone off of my mind, which disturbs my dreams and sleep!

Will spring ever come?

Now for the art...

This is made using pens and Prismcolor pencils

Then I found myself working on this next piece....

Again another drawing using pens and Prismcolor pencils.
I really like this one.  It needs a title.  My cousin said it should be titled "Beautiful."

An then there was Saturday, in my "studio."  Oh, how I wish I had that studio with tons of windows overlooking a garden in the sunshine.  Hey one can dream, after all I seem to be stuck in this winter orbit that won't let me out!

Paintings are made with acrylic paint. Nowhere near complete!!!

 And then there was Sunday...

These drawings are made with pens.

Despite it was frigid out I accomplished a lot of art.  Today I have off from work, because my agency likes to celebrate President's Day. So a massage is scheduled and more art will be done.

As I focused my mind on art this weekend I was content to be in my own little world.  It was nice to hide away since it was Valentine's Day.  As a single lady, who is always single, this day just brings more awareness of my "status" compared to others who rave about their relationship.  Well, this is what I came to the conclusion, I get broken hearts from men, but my heart never breaks when I love myself and God.

My favorite song is "so I pray" by Jem.  click on the link, hopefully you can hear the song.  It is a song I relate to, which helps to validate my thoughts.  Sometimes I want to stay single, sometimes I want to run away, most of the time I want to share a life with a man who is in love with me.

Storm is brewing in the air tonight
So many pressures on my mind
Want to escape, just wanna run away
But it's not an option, I have to stay
And so I pray
I wish that all these things would go away
To disappear if only for a day
No, I can't go but I don't wanna stay
Can't believe the irony
The thing I wanted is killing me
All the happy smiles I miss
Didn't think it would be like this
And I pray
I wish that all these things would go away
To disappear if only for a day
No, I can't go but I don't wanna stay
Storm is brewing in the air tonight
So many pressures on my mind
Want to escape, just wanna run away
But it's not an option, I have to stay
And so I pray
I wish that all these things would go away
To disappear if only for a day
Know I can't go but I don't wanna stay
To be left alone if only for a day
I wish that all these things would go away
(Pray to you, I hope it will be alright)
To be someone else if only for a day
(And over soon, I feel it)
Know I can't go but I don't wanna stay
(Hope that you hear me)

Coloring Zentangle

Here is the latest zentangle drawing. This drawing took many, many weeks.  I started it sometime in the summer while I was at work.  I will work on my art when I am waiting for clients and when my administrative work is completed.  Which means I have weeks I am exhausted and busy and have days I don't have much to do.

When I look at this I noticed it has a floral look.  I love flowers so this made sense to me.  Finally something that makes sense!
I began coloring using Prismacolor pencils.

Wrapped in Colors

I found myself snowed in this weekend. And as I write this it is still snowing. It has been more than 24 hours of continuous snow. With that being said I had a day of drawing while wrapped out in a blanket with coffee brewing and banana bread smelling up the home.
I drew an image that can be recognized using the zentangle technique. A peacock came to mind, basically because of their colors. I didn't want the traditional colors for mine.  Why would I? I am an artist.
Here are the stages...
It is drawn on 18"x24" white paper, using various color pens..

During the drawing I took breaks, but my hand was hurting and my dog needed to go outside.   Here are pictures of the outdoors...

I couldn't resist this photo to share, she was watching it snow and begging to go outside, as I was trying to resist going outside.

Happy dog!

I need...

This week I started using this little sketch book I bought recently for Zentangle drawings.  It's a pocket book size.

My thought is...how awesome it would be to make a daily calendar with a Zentangle drawing?!  Uhmmm...a concept I definitely can execute.  Along with those Zentangle drawings, a quote will be attached. I definitely can find a quote, but terrible at recalling how the quote was written.  Thanks to Pinterest for many available quotes.
This sketch book comes with me to work as well as my pens. I can't leave home without my art supplies!

Somehow between work, yoga, sewing, painting and planning another project I found a table for the art studio in my home.  Not my ideal table, but it's a table.

I placed a plastic covering on it to protect the surface.

I have two paintings in the photo that desperately needs to be worked on.  I have been too busy lately!  Maybe a few days off from work would be best.

Now my Pinterest inspiration to redo this table...

I just love curtains under tables - perfect quick hiding spot for kid's toys and 'junk'!

Love the skirt and colors.

I like the idea of painting the top of the table. It may distract me from my art though. Yes, yes it will distract me.

How many of us have chairs like this?  How pretty is it now?

Now I will be off to walk my dog in this lovely cold lightly snowing day.  Then come back home finish laundry, sew and cook dinner.

Time Goes Slow

Waiting,  feeling lonley and walking in a daze are my feelings today.  Typically I would paint this emotion instead I'll share art that shows these emotions.
Edward Hopper's art always gives me the feeling of longing; longing for something; perplexed about something, in a daze about something.

I've been waiting patiently for something that I am beginning to accept will not happen. Perhaps I am wrong, I don't know.  I am perplexed.  Something wonderful came in my life and unexpectedly it's gone.  It's hard to wrap my head around it. Why enter when it will leave? What's the lesson?

I know that it's sort of a somber picture, but I always want to know what she's thinking. Reminds me f travel for admissions. Solitary, sort of lonely, but maybe not sad.

As I ask, I walk in a daze of how this is possible instead it continues to hurt my heart. The less I try to think about it the more my heart cries. One answer, one reply, one thought, one direction is all I asked.  I'm waiting for the next day in hopes it can give me the answer, the reply, the thought or the direction.  I have been faithful, prayerful and patient, and shall remain so. I'll wait in silence so I won't wake myself up from the reality.  "If only," as 'they' say. 'Don't wait' they say. 'Move on, forget about it' they say.  "Is there something else, find something else," they say.

I say silently,  "I have faith it will happen."

Edward Hopper, “Summer Interior,” 1909

Are you patiently waiting for something?  I know I didn't state exactly what I'm waiting for,  I will keep that private.  However we are all waiting and praying for something.

Square Rock, Ogunquit, 1914 Edward Hopper

And maybe one day, I can share with the world that my prayers were answered.  My heart is not broken, instead my heart is beating and open to receive the answer.

Possibly my favourite Edward Hopper painting - who hasn't felt that yearning feeling while looking out of a window?

One day, it shall happen.

Love,
Caroline

Food For Thought

I was thinking about art school and how we would go to our three hour drawing class and draw a 'still life' that the professor had set-up.  One of the earliest drawings we did was a still life of fruit.  We had the same still life for a few weeks, and had to sit in the same place until it was "completed."  Hence a reason my OCD increased!  We changed to a new position to draw the still life when we did gesture drawings, those are quick drawings that were timed -few minutes to a few seconds!  It is really a quick exercise to get our arms and eyes ready for a longer drawing.  The gesture drawings of mine were thrown out, awhile ago, simply because they were "gesture drawings" not completed pieces.  So to illustrate gesture drawings here is one by Rembrandt.

The still life that all artist had the pleasure of paining or drawing is a still life of fruit.  Why fruit?  We rather paint the food then eat it, hence starving artist! LOL.  Seriously, it is because of the colors, textures, shapes and shadows it gives off for us to capture.

Let's take a look at some food art by famous artists:

Cezanne This was my introduction to Cezanne, and for years I regarded him as a still life painter. What a marvelous surprise I experienced!

And here are some of mine:

I know this one does not show food, I wanted to share it.  I painted this in high school.

I have this one in my kitchen.

Next time you find yourself in an art museum don't walk by the paintings with food, instead take a moment and look at the brush strokes, the details and the colors.  You will be surprised, it is more than an artist painting a still life of fruit. (is it really black, or did they paint that shadow with blue and purple)  take a close look!
